Heather Stempka

Heather Stempka joined the support staff of First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in October of 2007. She was born and raised in Erie. And, like so many other Erie natives, really enjoys activities that celebrate the many unique aspects of our beautiful region, including hiking and camping.

Heather attended Gannon University majoring in the Elementary Education/Special Education curriculum. Her studies were cut short by a battle with breast cancer. This major crisis has profoundly affected her life. One of her goals is to complete a book she is writing on surviving breast cancer.

Following her treatment, Heather continued her education by earning a Personal Computer Specialist diploma at Tri-State Business Institute. Tri-State personnel were so impressed with Heather’s competency that they hired her to work on their support staff in the Career Resource Department
and as Librarian. She served there for three years prior to accepting the secretary’s position at
First Covenant. She also worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Sacred Heart Elementary School
for two years and also served in their after school program.

Family is a very important part of Heather’s life. She loves to spend time with her
15-year-old daughter, Stephanie, and her 12-year-old son, Joshua. She also
likes to take photographs and digitally enhance them. Her friends and family
benefit from her skills through the creative personalized calendars she makes for them.

Heather would have celebrated her 5 year survival on April 22, 2008. Sadly, as 2007 drew to
a close, Heather's cancer returned. She is currently receiving chemotherapy following surgery.
