Del VonVolkenburg currently serves as Director of
Administration and Acting Head of Staff at First Presbyterian Church of the
Covenant. In this position, he oversees the business operations, and directs
the activities of the support staff, including the bookkeeper, receptionist,
secretaries, building engineer, night hosts, and custodians.
Del received his certification as a Fellow in Church Business Administration
(FCBA) on
July 12, 2007 from the National Association of Church Business
Administration (NACBA).
On July 13, 2007, he received certification as a
Fellow in Presbyterian Church Business Administration (FPCBA)
from the Presbyterian
Church Business Administrators Association (PCBAA).
To receive these
certifications, Del completed a prescribed course of study at
Union
Presbyterian School of Theology and Christian Education.
Del serves using
his many excellent gifts and skills into the ministries at
First
Presbyterian Church of the Covenant through the Ministry of Administration.
Del previously served as Director of Operations from 2004 to 2006,
Maintenance Director from 1996 to 2004 and Building Engineer/Property
Manager from 1993 to 1996.
Del married his wife Pat, April 17, 1981. Del and Pat have three grown
daughters and a grandson. Their daughter Stacy Stafford works as a Physical
Therapist Assistant at Select Specialties Hospital in Erie and has made Del
and Pat proud grandparents with her first child, Spencer. Their daughter
Stephanie is an aspiring artist. Their daughter Melanie graduated from
Gannon University and works as a Radiologist at
Hamot Hospital and Medical Center in Erie.
Del grew up in Erie and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1977.
He worked for local construction companies before beginning his career in
the U. S. Army in 1981 as a Carpentry & Masonry Specialist. While in the
Army, he continued his education and graduated from Construction Managers
School in 1985.
In 1990, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia with the 62nd Engineer Battalion in
support of
Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
Del left the active Army upon return from Saudi Arabia in 1991, transferred
to reserve status, moved back to Erie, and resides on Erie’s East Side. He
worked for a local construction company until accepting the call to First
Presbyterian Church of Covenant as Building Engineer and Property Manager in
the winter of 1993.
Del was again called to active duty in November of 2001 with the 542nd
Quarter Master Company (Force Provider) to serve in Afghanistan in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom. He returned to Erie in June of 2002. In 2004,
Del concluded his 23 years of active military service and is currently in
retired reserve status.
