Grades K through 5

Sunday School - Classes for kindergarten through fifth grade meet in classrooms on the second and third floors at 9:30 on Sunday mornings.  Grade configurations change to optimize class size. Usually, we combine no more than two grades. We currently use curriculum from Group Publishing. This curriculum makes learning fun, while emphasizing Biblical stories and values. We have a large staff of creative, committed teachers covering four terms during the calendar year. Bringing many adults into the lives of our children helps to nurture us as a church family, and also allows the adult classes to feed our teachers during at least one term each year.

Music - All parents look forward to the first time their child stands up in front
of the church in that beautiful choir robe! Our youngest singers comprise
the Cherub Choir (kindergarten and first grade). Their rehearsal
consists of a comfortable combination of games, singing, and music
education (matching pitch, etc.).
The Gloria Singers (grades two through five) tackle more difficult
music in a structured (yet fun!) choir rehearsal.  Both groups meet as a part
of our Covenant Connections program on Wednesday nights after dinner.

The Gloria Ringers (grades four and five) play the handchimes.
They rehearse after the vocal choir rehearsals on Wednesday nights.

Communion Preparation Class - In the Reformed tradition, we welcome anyone baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to partake of Holy Communion. However, we also recognize the importance of adequately preparation before a child's first communion. At First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, we depend on the parents to determine when they believe their child should participate in communion for the first time. We offer a communion preparation class to help children understand the significance of the sacrament. The pastor leads this teaching time after worship once each year in the spring, in conjunction with a light lunch.

Vacation Bible School - Each summer, we spend an exhilarating week with 200 children from our church, our neighborhood, the Covenant Preschool, and the Greater Erie area exploring our faith through Vacation Bible School. Classes range from preschool-age children (preferably having had some preschool experience) through fifth graders, with middle school and senior high students helping the adults in various capacities. We enjoy worship and singing, Bible stories and games, crafts and recreation. We even tie the snacks into the theme for the day!
