Cradle Roll
- Hopefully, if you have young children you’ve already experienced the warmth of First
Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in the form of our Cradle Roll ministry team. Women from the church reach out to moms-to-be and new parents
with offers of support and encouragement, meals and older-sibling
care, whatever is needed. Please
contact the church if you are expecting or have recently welcomed a
baby, by birth or adoption, into your family.
Baptism of Infants and Children
- As Reformed Christians, we baptize infants to declare God’s
Covenant. God chooses us. We do not choose God. The gospel promises
are presented to both infant and parent(s). Baptism, then, serves as
a sign and proclamation of divine election, reconciliation, and
regeneration in and through the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. As the infant matures, he or she will respond to God’s
Covenant, the gospel promises, either negatively or positively. If
positively, then at that point repentance occurs and faith begins.
The child professes and celebrates salvation. If you would like to
arrange for the baptism of your child, please contact the pastor through
the church office at (814) 456-4243.
Nursery
- Our infant nursery (first floor, main hallway) is professionally
staffed from 7:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Sunday mornings, where babies from
birth to age 2 receive quality, loving care.
During the 11:00 a.m. worship service, volunteers help our paid
nursery attendant. From time to time, members may be asked to take
a turn as nursery helpers.
Preschoolers
- Sunday School classes begin at age 2; classrooms for Preschool I
(age 2-3) and Preschool II (age 4-5) are on the second floor.
Sunday School begins at 9:30, using materials from Group
Publishing which provide a fun, interactive approach to learning
Christian fundamentals. Child
care is available for Preschoolers during the 11:00 worship, staffed
by a rotating list of volunteers; consider helping out as an
opportunity to build relationships with your child’s peers!
Covenant Connections,
our Wednesday evening program, is for everyone in our church family
(friends, too)! Dinner
is served from 5:15 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. High chairs and booster seats are
available, and peanut butter and jelly is offered as an alternative
every week. During the
after-dinner program (which ends at 7:15 p.m.), infant care is available
in the nursery, and a class for preschoolers (age 3 and up) meets on
the second floor for activities and games.
Mom and Dad are encouraged to attend
one of the classes for
adults.
Covenant Preschool
- First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant is also the home of
Covenant Preschool, Erie’s oldest continuously-operating
preschool. Bright,
cheerful classrooms and warm, loving teachers provide a Christian
environment for your child’s educational experience. Emphasis is placed on social development, building
self-esteem, and developing a positive attitude toward learning. Classes are available for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds; for more
information, call Covenant Preschool
on weekday mornings at 456-4243 Extension 226.
